Mumtaz Persaud

Mumtaz is a self-taught artist from Trinidad and Tobago in the West Indies. Fueled by her need to seize and preserve life’s fleeting moments which she feels are often taken for granted, Mumtaz began her journey of putting paint to canvas.

“My art is emotionally driven and reflects my enduring interest in the inexpressible mysteries of life,” Mumtaz says.

An up and coming artist, Mumtaz identifies mostly with abstract, cubist and figurative styles as she feels these are best able to translate her deep captivation with the soul’s journey through the illusions of life. ‘A lucid dreamer’ is how Mumtaz describes herself and she is determined to unveil her meandering imagination using art as the medium. Her use of rich vibrant colour acts mainly as a sedative for an otherwise electrified mind.

In her ongoing quest to express the individuality that is alive within her, Mumtaz hopes to provide the beholder of her art with as much joy as she experiences creating it.
